It wasn t long ago that this sort of technology was expensive cumbersome and unpredictable. Now that prices are coming down and many drivers already have a GPS Sat Nav system manufacturers are competing to get the best possible features into the cheapest priced units which can only be a good thing for consumers. Even a year ago a GPS system with these features would have set you back around 300 but now it s down to nearly 100. The Mio C220 was easy to install with the standard suction cup windscreen mount. The pre installed mapping software meant that I didn t even need to put in a map just plug the unit into the power set a destination and start driving The directions were concise the screen was clear to read and the voice commands were audible and easy to follow. The 3.5" touch screen has nicely large buttons so that even if you re a bit clumsy you can quickly get to what you need. Having previously used touch screens on smaller models I really appreciated this feature Although it now seems to be a standard feature on most current Sat Nav GPS the Mio C220 has speed camera alerts that can be updated for free via any internet enabled Windows 2000 XP PC for a year. Once the free subscription is expired a yearly subscription fee of 34 Euros is then payable via the Mio website. The unit is small enough to be carried and used as a hand held personal navigator and the v3 MioMap software recalculated my route much faster than some other systems I ve tested. Summary A great small mid range GPS system. The screen was a touch on the small side but it was still easy to use and it meant that the whole unit was compact and fitted nicely in my pocket while I was out of the car.
