Happily N’ever After Review

Happily N’ever After Review

Despite reading some of the crude comments made about this film by various critics, I just have one thing to say…this movie totally rocked…not just because of the fact that Prince Charming was ridiculed out of his pants but because I truly loved the character Rick (perfectly voiced by heart throb freddie prinze junior). Rick was the true embodiment of the guy that every girl ignores, despite him being perfect, loving and a true ‘prince charming’ in a weird way. All in all, this movie left me with a totally good feeling and a quote that always has me cracking up:

‘I’m not just the DISHWASHER…I do laundry too!’ lol (Happily N’ever After, 2006)

Also, is it just me or was the main character Ella a bit annoying?

The Golden Compass or as we call it Northern Lights

I just watched the film on DVD and aside from the thrills, I would have to say I was truly disappointed from this movie. Although I thought the movie was well made and the actors were adequate enough, I think the movie jumps from scene to scene too quickly and parts of the novel that I found quite interesting are unfortunately cut out. In addition, it seems that since they ran out of time towards the end, the last part of the book was entirely erased, which is an extremely important part of the plot that I assume will be added to the beginning of the next movie The Subtle Knife. I have heard nothing whatsoever of another movie being made however but if they did add the ending of Northern Lights to the beginning of The Subtle Knife it would look extremely stupid. But it maybe that I am a great fan of the the Philipp Pullman novel and therefore, I believe that the movie does not even come close to justifying the masterpiece novel. However, I do look forward to seeing some improvement in the next installment of films but I doubt I would be very impressed.

The Little Mermaid 3: Ariel’s Beginning

I was wondering if anyone knows anything more about this movie than what I found on random sites. All I know so far that it is out at the end of August and alot of it focuses on Ariel’s mother. I quite enjoyed the second sequel so am lookin forward to this one but if it doesn’t include Prince Eric I would be greatly disappointed because he is one of my favourite characters in the disney movies.

Disney’s Enchanted

I absolutely adored this movie and think that the only downside to it was that it was not longer. It was a refreshing change to come across absolutely new faces to bring us a new image to ‘happily ever after’. I think it worked extremely well. At first when I was told that Amy Adams would be playing Giselle I was so disappointed because I believed that Anne Hathaway would be able to play the role much better but after watching the movie I realised how wrong I was. The naivety and innocence of Giselle’s role was carried off beautifully by Amy Adams, whilst I did not think much of the Idina Menzel in the role of Nancy. I definitely see Giselle as the classic snow white…extremely naive and innocent but yet we see this snow white eventually become a modern day fairy tale princess, which is absolutely fantastic.

The most romantic of moments portrayed within the movie would have to be the ball…Giselle’s gown is divine and she definitely looks made for her modern prince, played beautifully by Patrick Dempsey. On the other hand, much of the humour within the movie is derived from the clash between Giselle’s idyllic beliefs verses Roberts cynical nature, which fortunately works.

After a long long time a disney movie introduced musical numbers that brought back memories of long forgotten disney classics. ‘True Love’s Kiss’ is extremely reminiscent of ‘Someday my Prince will come’ and is extremely catchy. In fact the movie seems quite inspired by Snow White and Seven Dwarves, especially during the animated parts of the movie. On the other hand, the modern take on the movie makes it quite real to life, and extremely believable.

My favourite musical number in the movie is ‘How does she know’ because I believe the song represents the importance of a fairy element needed in every day relationships. It brings up an important issue: women need to know that they are needed and loved and that even everyday relationships require a ‘happily ever after’.

I don’t know about anyone else but Enchanted for me brought to life the once upon a time fairy tales forgotten by many (I especially loved the fact that the movie began with the opening of a book…just like the classic disney movies). I would certainly watch this movie more than once.
